Edward Quartley.
Ted was with Rovers in 1931 as can be seen from the documents below kindly sent to us by his grandson Mel. Mel says. "The first 4 are an Agreement' dated 3rd February 1931, between Bristol Rovers and Edward Quartley. This was signed by Albert Prince-Cox. while the second is receipt from The Football Association for £5 dated 16th November 1936 - for 'Permit'. I'm not sure what this is regarding though. Later, Edward was later taken prisoner of war, in Italy and was held captive I have looked into the dates of captivity and he was a POW from May 1943 to July 1944. He passed away in January 1991. In the team picture Edward (Ted} is middle row, sat, from left to right, fourth (or sat, third and last person in football strip)".
Sadly for Ted he didn't make it into the 1st team.
Thank you Mel. Fascinating stuff.

My Great uncle played just half a dozen games for the club in the 1930’s, and I’m assuming he went to the game and asked some of the players for their autographs? I think you’ll agree there’s a few club legends on here. Vic Lambden, Ray Warren, Geoff Bradford, 242 goals in 461 appearances (like I needed to add the stats.), and an England cap too! Harry Bamford and Paddy Leonard.

1990's

Rick Weston tells us that from 1986 to 2003, DC Thomson & Co published a monthly football comic, 'Football Picture Story Monthly', which was based on the longer running 'Commando' series. Each story featured fictional teams such as 'Everpool' or 'Brummington Villa'. In January 1990, Rovers were doing so well that in issue no 87 (entitled "Carson's Cast Offs") the blue and white quartered Spall shirts complete with Rovers badge make an appearance! Each edition cost 32p.
